The provinces of Flevoland, Gelderland and Overijssel are terminating their public transport contract with bus operator EBS due to significant financial losses. EBS was contracted to provide bus services in large parts of these provinces until the end of 2035, but is experiencing considerable financial strain. The provinces have agreed to end the contract in mid-2029, and will financially support EBS in the coming years to ensure continued bus services. The amount of this support remains undisclosed, but comes in addition to existing annual funding. EBS cited factors such as staff shortages, delayed electric bus deliveries, and insufficient charging capacity due to grid limitations as reasons for the financial shortfall. Overijssel and Gelderland will now seek a new public transport provider, with Gelderland planning a separate concession for the Apeldoorn - Noord-Veluwe area, with details to be finalized in the coming months.
