Three Filipino fishermen survived five harrowing days adrift in the Pacific Ocean after their boat’s engine failed and they clung to a refrigerator as a makeshift raft. The men, initially fishing near Guam, were caught in a sudden storm which disabled their vessel. With limited supplies and no means of communication, they hoped for rescue while battling hunger, thirst, and exposure. They were eventually located and rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard vessel responding to a distress call from the fishermen’s families. The fishermen were reportedly in stable condition after their ordeal, highlighting the dangers faced by those working at sea and the importance of emergency communication. The refrigerator proved to be a critical flotation device, allowing them to stay above water until help arrived.
