Matias Maccelli of the New York Islanders suffered an apparent ankle injury during last night’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Finnish forward’s left leg twisted awkwardly after being tripped by Darren Raddysh near the end of the first period. Maccelli was unable to put weight on his left leg and was escorted off the ice to the dressing room. Prior to the injury, Maccelli had been on a five-game scoring streak. Details regarding the extent of his injury are currently unknown, but his absence would be a significant blow to the Islanders' offensive lineup. It is unclear when Maccelli will return to play in the NHL.
