A Finnish MP has proposed legislation to significantly lower the legal blood alcohol limit for operating boats. Mira Nieminen, of the Finns Party, submitted a bill to Parliament seeking to reduce the limit for boating under the influence. Currently, the limit is higher than that for driving a car; Nieminen proposes aligning it with the 0.5 per mille standard for drivers. The initiative aims to improve safety on Finnish waterways by addressing concerns about alcohol-impaired boating. Supporters argue that equal standards for all forms of vehicle operation are necessary. The proposal is now subject to parliamentary debate and review. If passed, the change would represent a substantial tightening of regulations for recreational boaters.
