A 34-year-old woman from Nistelrode was briefly detained after a fatal car crash on the A59 highway Friday, resulting in the deaths of a 71-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman from Oss. The collision occurred at the rear of a traffic jam caused by farmers driving tractors to protest provincial plans to revoke permits for five poultry farms in North Brabant. Six others were injured in the four-car pileup. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the accident, but the woman is suspected of causing an accident resulting in injury and has since been released. The farmers were driving their tractors on the right lane of the highway, allowing other traffic to pass on the left, but the congestion ultimately led to the crash. The victims were reportedly on their way to Den Bosch for a weekly shopping trip, and their daughter stated the driver who hit them was responsible, not the protesting farmers.
