A false official statement attributed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) has been circulating on social media since Wednesday, October 14th. The document, dated Lausanne, falsely claims the Africa Cup of Nations victory has been awarded to Senegal. The statement, complete with a header, logo, stamp, and the signature of the secretary-general, asserts that Senegal’s national team has met all sporting, regulatory, and ethical conditions to be declared the winner of the CAN. It further states the Senegal Football Federation is recognized as the champion of Africa, and congratulates the team and Senegalese people. However, the document has been marked as “FAKE NEWS” and is demonstrably false as it references the “2026 Africa Cup of Nations” while the dispute concerns the 2025 CAN final played in Rabat on January 18, 2026. No decision has been made public by the TAS regarding the dispute between Senegal and Morocco, and the ruling is still pending.
