Senegal is experiencing exceptionally heavy rainfall across much of the country, with some areas reporting over 100 millimeters of accumulated precipitation in the last 48 hours. This has led to widespread flooding, disrupted traffic, and material damage in several localities, including Dakar and Matam. Sadly, preliminary reports indicate loss of life and injuries. In Kaolack, authorities are investigating the cause of a building collapse. Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé, has mobilized the National Brigade of Firefighters and local administrations to coordinate relief efforts. These efforts include damage assessment, aid to those affected, and securing vulnerable areas, with ongoing rescue and pumping operations. The Minister has expressed condolences to bereaved families and urges citizens to remain vigilant by avoiding flooded roads, protecting children, and following official guidance.
