A former member of parliament, Lieutenant General (retired) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, has been placed on a four-day remand in connection with a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC alleges Chowdhury misappropriated 119 crore taka (approximately $1.1 million USD) through fraudulent recruitment of workers to Malaysia. Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Mohammad Sabbir Fayez granted the remand request on Sunday, June 21st, following a petition by the ACC. Court bench assistant, Riaz Hossain, confirmed the order. The case centers around accusations of embezzlement related to the overseas worker recruitment scheme. Further details regarding the investigation are pending release by the ACC. Chowdhury’s remand will allow investigators to question him regarding the alleged financial irregularities.
