The trial of former Central African Republic President François Bozizé is underway at the Special Criminal Court (SCC). Bozizé is being tried in absentia, currently in exile in Guinea-Bissau, for alleged crimes against humanity committed between 2009 and 2013. The charges relate to events that occurred at the Bossembélé prison and military camp, located approximately 150 kilometers northwest of Bangui. Three former military officials – Eugène Barret Ngaïkosset, Vianney Semndiro, and Firmin Junior Danboy – are also on trial and are present in court. The trial began on June 16th and includes testimony from victims and witnesses. Victims have expressed hope for justice through the proceedings. The court is focused on crimes committed within a specific timeframe and location during Bozizé’s presidency.
