European Union Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic began a two-day visit to Beijing, China, on Thursday to address a significant trade imbalance with the country. Sefcovic intends to discuss “rebalancing” what he termed an “unsustainable trade deficit” with Chinese counterpart Wang Wentao. A key concern for the EU is the growing presence of Chinese hybrid vehicles, now holding a 25 percent share of the European automotive market. The visit signals the EU's focus on fostering fairer trade relations with China. This comes as other tech companies, like Microsoft, make moves to compete in the global market with new AI-powered personal computers. The talks in Beijing are expected to be focused on improving market access and addressing unfair trade practices.
