The European Union has sharply criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas warned that allowing Russia to export diesel will provide additional revenue to the Kremlin, directly fueling its ongoing war against Ukraine. The move, announced by Trump, has been met with concern in Europe as it undermines efforts to restrict Russia's financial resources. Officials fear increased Russian revenue will prolong the conflict and exacerbate regional instability. The EU maintains its commitment to supporting Ukraine and believes the sanctions regime is crucial in limiting Russia’s ability to wage war. This decision is seen as a setback in international efforts to pressure Russia. AFP reported on Kallas’s statement following Trump’s announcement.
