Teenagers in Estonia are exploiting a vulnerability in the state portal, Eesti.ee, to fraudulently alter their personal data. By editing their information within a web browser, these minors are successfully bypassing age checks designed to restrict access to age-restricted venues like bars and clubs. The Information System Authority (RIA) in Estonia acknowledges the existence of this scheme, where youth are altering their details on Eesti.ee. Despite awareness of the manipulation, the RIA states it currently has no means to prevent this practice. This loophole allows underage individuals to gain entry to establishments where they are legally prohibited. The situation raises concerns about the security and reliability of the Eesti.ee portal for age verification purposes and the challenges of enforcing age restrictions in a digital age within Estonia.
