Estonian painter Keili Major embarked on a unique artistic project, dedicating a year to capturing the essence of the Tanaro river in Italy. For twelve months, from June 2026 to May 2027, she will visit the same location on the river each month, documenting it through oil paintings. Unconventionally, Major utilizes only her fingers to create each 60x80cm artwork on cotton canvas. Before painting, she photographs the river under consistent lighting conditions, using the images as inspiration for her work. A stone cairn, placed in May 2026, marks her designated painting spot in the Ligurian Alps. The project, titled "One river, 12 paintings," aims to translate her observations of the Tanaro’s changing character over the course of a year.
