Estonia has enhanced its air defense capabilities with the arrival of its first IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense missile system. Delivered to Ämari Air Base on June 22nd, the system was procured from German defense company Diehl Defence through the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments. This acquisition significantly expands Estonia’s ability to counter aerial threats at longer ranges and higher altitudes compared to its current short-range defenses. Estonian Air Force Commander Brigadier General Riivo Valge hailed the delivery as a crucial milestone for both the Defense Forces and the Air Force. The IRIS-T SLM is a mobile system designed to protect against a variety of airborne targets. This development reflects Estonia’s commitment to strengthening its security posture in response to regional concerns.
