The Estonian government has approved a special zoning plan for an industrial park in the municipality of Piirsalu, in western Estonia, paving the way for the construction of an ammunition factory. Tallinn aims to open the facility as early as 2028. The factory will produce ammunition approximately 190 kilometers from the closest border with the Russian Federation, according to Estonian broadcaster ERR. This development signifies a bolstering of Estonia’s defense capabilities. The decision reflects the heightened security concerns in the region. The planned location in Piirsalu was selected based on its suitability for industrial development and strategic considerations. The new factory is expected to contribute to Estonia’s economic growth as well.
