Colombian public utility EPM has received certification from the Civil Aeronautics authority to operate drones in its various operations. This approval allows EPM to utilize drone technology for inspections of critical infrastructure throughout Colombia. The drones will be deployed to examine electrical networks, substations, power generation plants, reservoirs, aqueduct and sewage systems, and water treatment plants. The implementation of this technology is expected to improve the efficiency and safety of inspections. This enables quicker identification of potential issues and preventative maintenance. EPM anticipates significant benefits from the expanded use of drones for infrastructure monitoring across its operations in Colombia.
