Egypt’s State Security Prosecution has renewed the detention of six journalists from the “Metrasdish” platform for an additional 15 days. The detained journalists are Mohamed Ashraf Abu Amira, Abdullah Qadri, Islam Barkat, Mohamed Adel, Mohamed Mahmoud, and Omar Helal. The renewal occurred during a hearing to continue investigations into case number 8083 of 2026, filed under State Security. Investigations took place at the Public Prosecution headquarters in the Fifth Settlement, east of Cairo, lasting from approximately 1:00 PM until evening. Their lawyer reported the detention extension, and the journalists remain in custody pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. This case highlights concerns regarding press freedom and the treatment of journalists in Egypt. The post originally appeared on Mada Masr.
