The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s Palm Houses have reopened following a five-year, £23.5 million restoration project. The extensive work focused on replacing all 5,750 glass panes to better protect the glasshouses from the elements. Nearly 600 rare plant specimens have now been replanted within the restored structures. This restoration secures the Palm Houses’ future for continued conservation work, safeguarding endangered flora. The project also enhances the facilities for education and scientific research at the Edinburgh garden. The restored Palm Houses will support ongoing efforts into plant diversity and preservation.
