A delegation of military chiefs from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has arrived in Bissau to monitor the country's ongoing political transition. The mission, led by Sierra Leone's Chief of General Staff, includes military leaders from Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal. This visit follows a military coup on November 26, 2025, which established a 12-month transition period and scheduled general elections for December 6. Due to the constitutional breach, Guinea-Bissau has been suspended from various international organizations, including ECOWAS. Over the next five days, the delegation will hold working sessions with Guinean military and paramilitary entities. They are also expected to meet with the high military command responsible for the coup. Additionally, the mission will consult with diplomatic representatives from ECOWAS member states accredited in Bissau.
