The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide up to €230 million (US$262.3 million) to modernize a crucial road section in western Kazakhstan. This loan, denominated in Japanese yen, aims to enhance the Trans-Caspian Corridor, a key component of the EU’s Global Gateway initiative. The project focuses on upgrading infrastructure to facilitate increased trade and transportation. The improved road is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and support economic growth in Kazakhstan. The Trans-Caspian Corridor offers an alternative trade route between Europe and Asia, bypassing Russia. This investment underscores the EBRD’s commitment to infrastructure development and regional cooperation in Central Asia.
