The ongoing Ebola outbreak in Kongo has expanded to another region within the country, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Currently, six of Kongo's 26 provinces are affected by the disease. To date, the outbreak has resulted in 3,267 deaths, with a total of 6,757 confirmed cases. This outbreak is now considered the second-worst Ebola outbreak in recorded history. It is surpassed only by the devastating 2013–2016 outbreak that impacted Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Health officials remain concerned about further spread and are working to contain the virus within Kongo. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges of controlling Ebola in regions with limited healthcare infrastructure.
