An aid worker infected with Ebola has arrived at the Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC) in Leiden, Netherlands. The patient, a staff member of Artsen zonder Grenzen (Doctors Without Borders), contracted the virus while working in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They were repatriated from Congo via a French private aircraft, landing at Schiphol airport around 7:45 PM before being transported to Leiden under the supervision of the Koninklijke Marechaussee. The patient’s identity has not been released. The LUMC reports the patient has been admitted “in strict isolation” and the Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) confirms appropriate protocols are in place. Authorities, including Minister Sophie Hermans, assure the public that the hospital is fully prepared and that there is no risk of infection to patients or visitors.
