The extensive project, lasting until 2029, involves reinforcing the road, raising the dike it sits on, and replacing underground utilities. Without alternative transportation, residents face significant delays getting children to school and sports. Officials considered options like boats and golf carts, but determined e-cargo bikes offered the best solution. While detours are still necessary, the bikes reduce extra travel time to 15 minutes, compared to 45-60 minutes by car or standard bicycle.
