The Dutch national football team will wear warm-up shirts designed by Amsterdam-based streetwear brand Patta during the World Cup, in collaboration with Nike and the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association). Patta was approached by Nike two years ago with a broad brief: create a shirt for the team to be worn in the US, Mexico, and Canada, with creative freedom. This partnership highlights Nike’s strategy to strengthen its connection with street culture, leveraging Patta’s influence and popularity, particularly after successful collaborations with FC Barcelona and the popular Nike Wave sneaker line. Patta’s creative director, Vincent van de Waal, emphasized the significance of designing for the national team, stating the design aimed to be striking and impactful. The shirt reflects Patta’s brand identity and its roots in Amsterdam’s subcultures, founded in the 1990s by Edson Sabajo and Guillaume Schmidt. The collaboration signifies a unique opportunity for Patta, despite its existing strong relationship with Nike.
