The Dutch Cloud Community (DCC) has expressed serious concerns regarding the seizure of a server in Amsterdam-Oost by police, following a request from US authorities. The server belonged to Autistici/Inventati (A/I), an Italian internet service provider, and was located at the Amsterdam Science Park. DCC fears this sets a precedent for the US to request data without adequate independent Dutch legal review. The organization has sent an urgent letter to the police demanding clarification on the legal basis for the seizure and the process followed. They argue a clear Dutch legal assessment is crucial to maintain trust in the Netherlands as a data haven. While acknowledging the importance of international cooperation in combating crime, DCC warns against its misuse to suppress political expression. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Amsterdam confirmed the seizure was based on a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters with the US and stated the data has not yet been shared.
