The Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision recently opened its archive, “De Schatkamer” (The Treasure Chamber), to the public, offering access to a wealth of radio and television history. This prompted the podcast “De Dag” to consider what digital content from the internet will be preserved for future generations. The podcast explores the challenges of archiving the internet, particularly interactive programs and ephemeral online content. Conservator Wytze Koppelman highlighted existing archived items, including a t-shirt, YouTube videos, and a 1990s computer game. René van Leeuwen, creator of the popular website DumpertReeten, shared his perspective on what aspects of the internet deserve preservation. The podcast aims to spark discussion about the importance of safeguarding digital culture and the methods for doing so effectively. Listeners are encouraged to share their thoughts via email.
