As Russian forces increased their use of jet-powered drones in Ukraine, a key question arose among Ukrainians: why had the launch sites not yet been destroyed? These sites, often referred to as “droneports,” present a significant challenge for Ukrainian forces. The exact nature and difficulty in neutralizing these Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) bases are now coming into focus. Understanding the construction and tactical deployment of these “droneports” is crucial for developing effective counter-strategies. The persistent operation of these bases suggests inherent difficulties in locating, targeting and ultimately destroying them. This raises concerns about the continued threat posed by Russian drones and the need for innovative approaches to combat them.
