Approximately 200 participants from diverse backgrounds gathered at the China Cultural Center in Yangon, Myanmar, to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on June 20. The event served as both a cultural celebration and a means of strengthening ties between the Chinese and Myanmar communities. Central to the festivities is the commemoration of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet and official from the State of Chu during the Warring States period. Qu Yuan is remembered for his unwavering loyalty to his king despite being falsely accused and exiled due to court intrigues. Overcome by grief for his country, he eventually drowned himself in the Miluo River. According to tradition, local residents raced their boats and threw rice dumplings into the river to prevent fish from eating his body. Today, the festival continues to symbolize integrity and the enduring spirit of patriotism.
