Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has prohibited carrying various types of weapons, including knives, spears, and swords, during Ashura processions and celebrations. The ban also extends to the use of fireworks and firecrackers. DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed announced the restrictions during a coordination meeting on security, law and order, and traffic management in Dhaka. The measures are intended to maintain public safety and order during the observance of the holy Ashura, a significant event for the Shia Muslim community. These restrictions aim to prevent potential violence or disruptions during the processions. The DMP has implemented a comprehensive security plan for the Ashura period, focusing on maintaining peace and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Further details regarding the security arrangements were discussed at the meeting.
