Hong Kong's anti-corruption watchdog has reported a significant increase in suspected corruption complaints related to major building renovations. In the first four months of 2026, these complaints surged by 150 per cent. This spike follows a deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, which drew intense scrutiny to building safety and maintenance. The data was presented on Tuesday by four advisory committees overseeing the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). The surge suggests a heightened public awareness or suspicion regarding the integrity of renovation projects. The ICAC continues to monitor these reports to ensure accountability in construction and safety standards. This trend highlights the critical link between regulatory oversight and public safety in high-density residential areas.
