Daniella Nordhagen has been awarded the “Jenteprisen” (Girl Prize) in Norway for her societal engagement concerning forced marriage. Nordhagen herself was forcibly married to her cousin at the age of 13. The jury highlighted her courageous openness in sharing her experiences with forced marriage, social control, and honor-related violence. Gunvor Knag Fylkesnes, Secretary General of Plan International Norge, emphasized Nordhagen’s extraordinary courage and reminded that the fight is far from over, as around 12 million girls are still married each year globally—approximately 28 every minute. Plan International Norge has awarded the “Girl Prize” annually since 2012 to individuals or organizations demonstrating exceptional work for girls’ rights and gender equality. This year’s nomination pool included 68 candidates, including Queen Sonja and Lise Klaveness.
