A large-scale security operation was conducted by the Dakar Gendarmerie from August 6th to 7th, 2026, targeting several areas of the capital city. The operation resulted in the dismantling of 60 temporary shelters and six makeshift eateries, particularly in the resettlement zone and near Virage beach. Twenty-seven individuals were arrested during the intervention, including two Nigerian nationals suspected of human trafficking. Authorities also seized various items, including alcoholic and energy drinks. This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Gendarmerie to improve security and combat illicit activities throughout Dakar’s neighborhoods. The initiative aims to reinforce public safety and address issues arising from unregulated structures. The crackdown underlines a commitment to maintaining order in key areas of the city.
