Dakar and its surrounding areas are once again experiencing severe flooding, resulting in loss of life in Parcelles Assainies. The government recently announced a new national program totaling 921 billion CFA francs to address the issue, prompting a review of commitments made in 2024 following the new administration’s first rainy season. A key promise involved a comprehensive audit of the 717 billion CFA franc ten-year flood prevention plan implemented by the previous government, intended to assess the efficacy of drainage systems, water storage, pumping facilities, and relocation efforts. Despite repeated mentions by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in 2025 at Kaolack, no audit results have been publicly released, as confirmed by MP Amadou Ba in October 2026. Furthermore, inconsistencies exist in the reported amount of the ten-year plan – fluctuating between 717, 800 and 721 billion CFA francs – reinforcing the need for a transparent and verifiable audit to clarify discrepancies in funding. The initial promise of an audit remains unfulfilled, lacking public conclusions to date.
