Thousands of Czech citizens demonstrated in Prague on Sunday to protest proposed changes to public broadcasting funding and express dissatisfaction with the Minister of Culture. The demonstration, organized by the civic group “A Million Moments,” began at the Pražské povstání metro station and culminated in a march to the Czech Television headquarters. Protesters voiced opposition to a government proposal to abolish television license fees, a key source of funding for public media. They also criticized Minister of Culture Ota Klempíř, accusing him of undermining the independence of public service broadcasting. Organizers stated the demonstration was a defense of independent journalism and a rejection of perceived government interference. The event proceeded peacefully, with participants using banners and whistles to convey their message. The proposed changes have sparked concerns about the future of public media in the Czech Republic.
