Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš intends to propose to European partners that they fund the purchase of ten Czech L-39NG Skyfox trainer jets for the Ukrainian Air Force. This proposal is aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s aerial defense capabilities. According to Ukrainian defense portal Defense Express, the Skyfox jets are specifically intended to counter Iranian-made Shahed drones. Babiš will discuss the initiative with Ukrainian officials before presenting it to European allies, particularly those who have already provided F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The Czech Republic is positioning the Skyfox as an effective “hunter” of these drones. The proposal seeks to leverage existing European support for Ukraine to acquire a specialized asset for its ongoing defense efforts. This initiative highlights a growing focus on countering drone warfare in the conflict.
