The Czech Republic has become a significant producer and seller of kratom within Europe, according to the head of the National Drug Control Centre, Jakub Frydrych. This position is attributed to the country’s lack of restrictions on the quantity of kratom an individual can possess, making it unique within the EU. Frydrych described the Czech Republic as “exotic” in this regard, highlighting its unusual status. However, he expressed greater concern regarding low-potency cannabis products due to their potentially severe consequences. He indicated that these products pose a more substantial threat than kratom itself. The director emphasized the need to address the risks associated with both substances, but particularly those linked to readily available, low-THC cannabis items. This situation presents a challenge for drug policy and public health officials in the country.
