A debate is underway in the Czech Republic regarding the potential expansion of responsibilities for nurses and other non-physician healthcare professionals. Petra Krulová, a nurse advising the Ministry of Health on non-physician healthcare worker competencies, argues that broadening these roles would benefit both healthcare providers and, crucially, patients. The core aim is to improve access to necessary care by optimizing the skills of the existing workforce. Currently, the system limits nurses’ abilities, preventing them from fully utilizing their expertise. Expanding competencies could alleviate pressure on the healthcare system and expedite treatment for individuals. This initiative seeks to address systemic limitations and enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery within the country. The Ministry of Health is actively considering these proposals as a potential solution to ongoing challenges.
