A new report from the National Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Addiction reveals that nearly three-quarters of adults in the Czech Republic use addictive substances. The 2025 annual report indicates approximately 1.6 million people over the age of fifteen smoke cigarettes daily or almost daily. Alcohol is also widely consumed, with up to one million people drinking regularly. Concerningly, the report estimates up to one million individuals struggle with the misuse of prescription drugs. The findings were presented to the government on Monday and released publicly on Tuesday. The data highlights significant public health challenges related to substance use within the country.
