A dispute over the Czech Republic’s delegation to the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara has escalated to a constitutional challenge. President Petr Pavel has filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court after being excluded from the delegation by the government. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, and Defense Minister Jaromír Zůna will represent the Czech Republic at the summit instead. The disagreement centers on the President’s role in representing the country at international events. Experts Jan Zahradil, Petr Mach, Libor Rouček, Cyril Svoboda, and Jiří Pospíšil discussed the conflict during a televised program, “Události, komentáře.” The case will now be decided by the court, determining the extent of presidential versus governmental authority in such matters.
