Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has renewed his criticism of the Czech National Bank (ČNB) following its decision to raise the base interest rate to 3.75 percent. The increase, a quarter of a percentage point rise, has drawn condemnation from Babiš, who argues it will negatively impact both citizens and the national economy. Prior to the central bank’s Thursday decision, Babiš voiced concerns about the potential damage to livelihoods and businesses. He reiterated these concerns on Sunday via social media, stating the government will actively work to control rising prices. The Prime Minister believes the rate hike will be detrimental, though the ČNB maintains the increase is necessary to combat inflation. This is not the first time Babiš has publicly challenged the independence of the central bank.
