Jakub Vrbka of Žďársko has been honored with the “Gentleman of the Roads” award for saving a woman from a car sinking in a pond. Vrbka received the award Tuesday, joining a select group of 245 individuals recognized for extraordinary acts of bravery in the Czech Republic. The rescued woman sustained a minor concussion and expressed immense gratitude for Vrbka’s quick thinking and courage, stating she wouldn’t have escaped without his help. Despite being hailed as a hero, Vrbka modestly believes anyone would have done the same. He receives a daily reminder of the event whenever he passes the pond where the rescue occurred. The woman was unable to attend the ceremony, but sent a written message expressing her thanks.
