Czech customs officials have begun enforcing debt collection directly on the D8 highway. A new regulation grants them the authority to confiscate vehicles from drivers found to be in arrears to the state. The initiative primarily targets unpaid tolls, municipal fees, court costs, and previous traffic fines. In Central Bohemia alone, customs are assisting with the collection of nearly 15,000 outstanding penalty notices this year. Beyond vehicle seizure, officials are also removing license plates from vehicles of debtors. Over two hundred sets of license plates have already been confiscated in 2024 as part of this enforcement effort. The move aims to increase compliance with financial obligations and streamline debt recovery processes.
