Negotiations have begun regarding the Czech Republic’s state budget for the next year. Libor Vondráček, chairman of the Freedom Party (SPD), stated that while ministers will advocate for their departments, the government aims to move towards a balanced budget as outlined in its program. Vondráček assured that deficits will not exceed those of the previous government. Jan Skopeček, Deputy Speaker of the House (ODS), called for consolidation of public finances, but pointed out the government has relaxed budgetary rules, a move also criticized by experts. This relaxation has broadened the debate beyond a simple opposition versus government dispute. Commentators Viliam Buchert and Tereza Povolná also contributed to discussions about the budget.
