Barbora Macková will step down as Chief Hygienist of the Czech Republic and Head of the Public Health Protection and Support Section on September 2nd, the Ministry of Health announced. Her departure is reportedly a voluntary resignation. Notably, Macková will continue in her role as Director of the State Health Institute (SZÚ). The positions of Chief Hygienist and SZÚ Director were combined in June 2024 by a government decision, making her current move a separation of duties. The Ministry of Health did not immediately provide a reason for Macková’s resignation. This change in leadership comes at a key time for public health policy in the country. Further details regarding a replacement for the Chief Hygienist position are expected soon.
