Czech canoeist Martin Fuksa won the European Championship title in the men’s 1000-meter kayak event at the competition held in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal. Fuksa, also an Olympic champion, edged out Russian competitor Zakhar Petrov in a close finish to claim his 14th European title. The victory marks another success for the Czech team at the European Championships. Fellow Czech athlete Josef Dostál, a gold medalist from the Paris Games in kayak, finished fourth in the 1000-meter race, repeating his result from the previous year’s European Championships in Račice. This is Fuksa’s latest achievement in a decorated canoeing career. The competition showcased high-level performances from athletes across Europe.
