Pirate Party leader Zdeněk Hřib has condemned the proposed state budget deficit of 389 billion Czech crowns for the next year, labelling it a disgrace. Hřib asserts that reducing the deficit will be hampered by ideological dogmas within the governing coalition and the populist policies of Andrej Babiš (ANO). He claims his party has solutions to decrease the deficit by 100 billion crowns, with approximately 20 billion attainable by curtailing unnecessary subsidies. Specifically, Hřib cited subsidies for Agrofert and other large agricultural conglomerates as prime targets for cuts. The interview, conducted by Jiří Václavek, highlighted the political challenges to fiscal responsibility in the Czech Republic. Hřib argues that overcoming these obstacles is essential for improving the nation’s economic outlook.
