These fatalities mark the first known deaths associated with the severe diarrheal illness, described as “explosive diarrhea,” stemming from the outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating the source of the Cyclospora parasite, which causes cyclosporiasis. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, cramping, nausea, and fatigue. Health officials urge individuals experiencing these symptoms to seek medical attention.
