Shurandy ‘Tyson’ Q., allegedly a key figure in the Antillian No Limit Soldiers (NLS) gang, began his trial in the Netherlands for crimes committed on Curaçao. He stands accused of involvement in eight murders and attempted murders between 2010 and 2020, and is referred to by prosecutors as the “Taghi of Curaçao”. Due to security concerns, the trial is being held within the high-security EBI prison in Vught, where Q. is currently detained following his extradition from Dubai. The case is extensive, involving thirteen separate case files alongside a main and personal dossier, plus a significant volume of encrypted communications. His defense team anticipates months to review all the evidence. The NLS gang, originating as a street gang, has been linked to several high-profile crimes on Curaçao, including the 2013 murder of politician Helmin Wiels and a 2014 shooting incident. Q. is believed to have led the NLS throughout its most violent period.
