The Lahore High Court has temporarily blocked the Punjab government from taking further action concerning 11.5 kanal of land belonging to Forman Christian College University (FCCU), specifically Ewing Hall. The dispute centers on the government’s recent attempt to repossess the land, which FCCU argues is a violation of a lease extended until 2048. The Punjab government claims the lease expired and significant payments are outstanding since 1975, and alleges commercial use of land designated for education. FCCU’s counsel argued the government’s actions on June 11th were illegal and requested restoration of possession. Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad suspended the Board of Revenue’s lease cancellation decision, emphasizing the need for proper notice before any recovery attempts. The court has requested a detailed report from the government regarding the matter.
