Costa Rican Coast Guard officials successfully intercepted a vessel carrying over two tons of cocaine approximately 97 miles off Cape Matapalo in the southern Pacific Ocean. The operation lasted twelve hours and culminated in the apprehension of three Colombian nationals who were manning the boat. In addition to the significant cocaine haul, authorities also discovered several containers filled with fuel onboard the vessel. This interception represents a major disruption to drug trafficking operations in the region. The Coast Guard is continuing to investigate the origins of the cocaine and the intended destination. Authorities will pursue prosecution of the individuals involved, reinforcing Costa Rica’s commitment to combating illicit drug trade.
